Racing Families: The Burkempers

We are very proud of all our sponsored Moose Racing riders.  But the families that ride & race together are something very special as many of you know.  This is a shared sport for families to create memories.  Over the next several weeks we will be featuring a sponsored Moose Racing family.

Mother / Son duo this week to feature.  How wonderful is this to see?  Read on to hear the special bond they have both on & off the track.

QUESTIONS FOR LEVI BURKEMPER: Age 10; Cobra Hybrid ATV

Question:  What do you like the most about racing together as a family?

I would not get to race as much as I do now if my whole family was not involved in racing. With my family involved, we are able to make it to a race almost every weekend. Plus it means I get to ride and practice on their quads too if they let me.

(Moose Racing:  Sounds like a perfect weekend to us.)

Question:  What is your most memorable moment in racing?

My first win at the GNCC Ironman which is in my home state.

Question:  What series do you race?

Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) and the Indiana Cross Country Racing Series (IXCR)

Question:  What is your favorite series / race / track?

My favorite series is the GNCC since it host my favorite race, the GNCC Ironman in Crawfordsville, Indiana. But my favorite track is in West Virginia where the GNCC Mountaineer Run was held.

(Moose Racing:  We are a main sponsor of the GNCC series & our semi is at most of the races so make sure to look for us.)

Question:  Any tips for a rider just starting out?

My uncle always tells me “Race your own race.” And I really believe in that. Don’t worry about anyone else. Just keep pushing until you take the checkered flag. Also do lots of physical conditioning. Through the week, I run, lift weights, do sit-ups and push-ups.

(Moose Racing:  Wise uncle.)

Question:  Who do you look up to the most?

My uncle, Tanner Fowler. He has helped me become the racer I am today and is always willing to make sure my quad is ready to race before his is. And my mom, Erica Burkemper-Fischer, because I think it’s cool that my mom races and I have fun when we get to race together.

Question:  Who is your favorite pro rider?

 Adam McGill

(Moose Racing:  The Gator is a favorite among many.  Glad he is on Team Moose Racing along with you.)

Question:  What is your favorite Moose Racing product?

The gloves. They are awesome and always give me a great grip on the handle bars.

Question:  Any other comments?

Thank you for your support, great gear and riding products. I am very happy to be a Moose Rider!

(Moose Racing:  You are quite welcome.  We are equally happy to have you on the team.)

QUESTIONS FOR STEPHANIE BURKEMPER-FISCHER: Age 36; 2015 Can-Am Renegade 800

Question:  What do you like the most about racing together as a family?

Very few sports give you the opportunity to travel the mid-west and east coast from track to track and make the memories that we have made as a family. My family has met other racing families that we will forever have a friendship with too. Plus racing as a family is a huge bonus as there are more hands to help with working on quads, heads to help diagnose problems, more eyes on the track during Levi’s race and multiple places for my brother and I to pit during our races too.

(Moose Racing:  Love this & could not agree more!)

Question:  What is your most memorable moment in racing?

Finishing in the top 20 out of 30+ in the 4×4 C class at the GNCC Ironman. That was the biggest class I have ever raced against and an all guy class to boot. Rushing into the holeshot that race was insane, lol. Plus the Ironman is known to be a tough one so even just finishing was an accomplishment.

(Moose Racing:  Way to go!)

After the GNCC Camp Coker race she changed her answer to this:

For being the first female to not only race a Can Am 4×4 in the GNCC series but to WIN a 4×4 class in the national series against a tough group of guys.  I crossed the finish line in first place in the 4×4 C class at the 2019 GNCC Camp Coker Bullet in South Carolina.  Not only did I win, but I beat the boys by EIGHT minutes.  I am still a little shocked about that but I pushed myself harder than I ever have at a race and it paid off.  Plus it is even more memorable because my son, Levi, also won the Youth 90cc – 8-12 year old ATV class earlier that morning so it turned out to be a very successful weekend for the family team.

Question:  What series do you race?

Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) and the Indiana Cross Country Racing Series (IXCR) are the ones we follow for points but we will hit other series as the schedule allows.

Question:  What is your favorite series / race / track?

My favorite series would have to be GNCC. Favorite race would have to be the GNCC Snowshoe in West Virginia simply for the atmosphere and extras that there are to do in between races and my favorite track would have to be the GNCC/IXCR X-Factor property in Peru, Indiana.

Question:  Any tips for a rider just starting out?

Just keep going. If you physically and/or mentally feel exhausted, arm pump has set in and you can’t feel your throttle thumb, just know that there are 100+ other riders out there that feel the same way so you are not alone, lol. Physical conditioning and diet are key too. Hydrate and eat right at least three days prior to and the time before leading up to the race. It will really help your body’s reaction and recovery time during and after racing.

(Moose Racing:  Sound advice to listen to.)

Question:  Who do you look up to the most?

Anyone that gets the nerve to go out and do XC racing, lol! When I explain this sport to the public, they look at me like we are nuts in thinking that this is fun. So I admire anyone who gets out there and gives xc racing a shot and sticks with it.

(Moose Racing:  Everyone’s definition of fun is different I guess, but we agree with what you do.  Keep going.)

Question:  Who is your favorite pro rider?

Is it too soon to say my son, Levi? Lol… I would have to say Adam McGill also. He has been a huge influence on my son and as a parent of a racer, I have great respect for how both him and his dad interact with the public at the races.

(Moose Racing:  I respect that you look up to your son.  So, no it is not too soon.  Adam is also a great choice.)

Question:  What is your favorite Moose Racing product?

Love the Agroid jersey and pants this year! They fit great, go over our neckbraces with ease – which if you have ever wrestled a 10 year old boy as you try to get his jersey over his head and neckbrace then you will understand why I mentioned that – and clean up super easy.

(Moose Racing:  As shown in their photo above.)

Question:  Any other comments?

It was a huge honor to be picked up as a Moose Racing rider for 2019. I love the multiple choices of gear made available to their riders and ordering has been super easy and fast. Roxane and her team also make sure all riders are always updated and aware of any changes made too. My family and I look forward to continuing our partnership with Moose Racing!

(Moose Racing:  I am happy to be here helping you & all the other sponsored riders we have.  I’m lucky to be working with a great group of riders.  I also look forward to many more years together.
