The 2017 racing season got under way this past Saturday night on opposite ends of the country. The AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series kicked off in Anaheim, CA with JGR/Yoshimura Suzuki’s Phil Nicoletti making the 250SX main event. It’s always a battle at the early rounds of the series with many riders on different bikes and hungry to make some noise early in the season. Nicoletti got off to a great start coming into the first corner in 3rd place, but got tied up in a crash that bent his brake lever forcing him off the track for a period of time to get that fixed. He would return to action and battle his way back up. When the checkers flew at the end of the night, Nicoletti would find himself finishing 17th overall. The teams will now shift their focus a little further south and head to San Diego for Round 2.
Back east, the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH played host to Round 1 of the 2017 AMA AMSOIL Arenacross Series. The Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki Team was led by defending series champion Gavin Faith who was running the red #1 plate. Faith’s qualifying time was best of all the riders and he backed that up with a 1st place finish in Heat #2. When the main event got rolling, it was a typical Arenacross battle with riders banging bars all the way through the main event. At the end of the action, Faith ended up 2nd overall and was joined in the top five by teammate Jacob Hayes who finished 5th overall. The Babbitt’s Lites Team was also represented well with Jacob Williamson finishing on the podium in 2nd and Cody Williams rounding out the top 10 in 10th place overall.
